Port of Kaliningrad traffic volume drops 13.7 percent
Handling of cargo at Kaliningrad Sea Commercial Port (KSCP, KMTP) in January-May 2012 fell 13.7 percent year-over-year to 1,403,500 tons, the company said.
The five-month exports volume shrank 18.6% to 1,011500 tons, while imports rose 1.6% to 388,200 tons. Coastal traffic increased by 15.6% to 3,700 tons. Dry bulk cargo exports decreased by 12.6% to 831,600 tons, oil product shipments slumped 38% to 180,000 tons. Containerized exports jumped by 20.4% to 104,500 tons, including 9541 TEUs of loaded containers and 27,499 TEUs of empty containers.
JSC Kaliningrad Sea Commercial Port is the largest enterprise of the regional port complex. The port is a gateway for intermodal traffic and major export / import flows passing through the region. In 2011, cargo throughput at the port of Kaliningrad rose by 18.4% year-over-year to 3,630,000 tons.
