Yantar Shipyard plans mooring trials of R/V Seliger in 2012
Kaliningrad-based Yantar Shipyard (PCZ) plans to conduct in January 2012 mooring trials of the Research & Survey Vessel Seliger ordered by the Russian Ministry of Defense, a spokesman for the shipbuilding firm said.
"Currently, the plant is carrying out measures required for mooring trials of the R/V Seliger. It is planned that they will be launched in January of 2012," Interfax quoted Sergei Mikhailov as saying.
The DSRV tender was designed by St. Petersburg-based Central Marine Design Bureau "Almaz" to conduct research and oceanographic survey, tests of special equipment, weapons, to participate in salvage operations.
The R/V Seliger is the first of two research / oceanographic survey vessels of Project 11982 and Project 22010 to be built under the RUB 7bn contract between Yantar Shipyard and the Defense Ministry signed in February 2009.
Ship's main characteristics: length - 59.7 m, beam - 10.8 m, displacement - about 1117 tons, operational speed - 13 knots, cruising range - 1,000 nm, the crew - 16 + 9 researchers.
Main propulsion: diesel generators BA 840 (3 x 840 kW) and BA 280 (2 x 280 kW).
Propulsion & Steering system: rudder propeller Rolls Royce 12 FP (2 x 700 kW), Schottel Transverse Thrusters STT 170 T-LK (2 x 200 kW).
In February, Yantar Shipyard will lay keel of the third frigate of Project 11356 to be christened ‘Admiral Makarov,’ another milestone for the shipbuilding firm, the spokesperson said.
Kaliningrad-based Baltic Shipbuilding Plant “Yantar” (Amber) was founded on July 8,1945 on the basis of a Koenigsberg unit of German’s Schichau Werft. Yantar Shipyard specializes in building, repairs of small- and medium-displacement surface vessels for the Russian Navy and civil boats. Throughout the years the Shipyard has built 154 warships and more than 500 boats. The Russian Government holds majority stake in the shipbuilding firm through Western Center of Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation.
