Tuticorin container throughput up 5%
The container traffic handling of the 10th major port in India, V O Chidambaranar Port at Tuticorin, has posted a growth of 5.07 per cent as against the container traffic handled during the corresponding period of previous fiscal, Business Standard reports.
In the current fiscal, the Port has handled container traffic of 350,580 TEUs, till date, compared to the 333,677 TEUs handled during last financial year, according to an announcement by A Subbiah, chairman, V O Chidambaranar Port Trust.
“The Port has crossed the 350,000 TEUs mark 13 days ahead of the least year’s performance,” said the announcement.
The chairman expressed hope that the Port shall meet the target of 468,000 TEUs set by the ministry as per the growth trend, for the present fiscal.
The Request For Proposal (RFP) documents of the intending bidders would be opened on receipt of government’s clearance, it added.
