Drilling rig with 67 people capsizes in the Sea of Okhotsk
The Kolskaya jack up drilling rig has capsized in the Sea of Okhotsk, the Russian Emergencies Ministry said. As of 9:30 (Moscow Time) the crews of the Magadan ice-breaker and the Neftegaz-55 tugboat have rescued 14 people from 67 workers who were aboard the Kolskaya.
The regional Sakhalin Centre for Crisis Management of Emercom of Russia was informed about the incident on December 18 at 2:24 am (Moscow Time). The Centre dispatched two vessels and a Mi-8 helicopter to the site to rescue people. Another rescue ship Atlas and Mi-8 of Aviashelf company will join the operation soon.
The jack up drilling rig built in 1985 at Finland’s Rauma Repola was operated by Arcticmorneftegasrazvedka.
