Suez to raise charges on northbound containerships
The Suez Canal authority has announced it will raise the charges on northbound containerships with six or more tiers of containers on deck from January 3, Transport Weekly reports.
For ships with six tiers of boxes on deck, the surcharge will increase to 18 per cent from 16 per cent. And for each tier above six, an extra two per cent increase will be imposed. There is no increase on southbound ships.
Danish shipping giant Maersk recently said it will make eight of its 7,450-TEU ships into 8,500-TEUers by adding two layers of containers stowed forward of the accommodation block and raising the wheelhouse to see over the highest stacks.
