DP World to join hands with IIT to promote logistics and shipping
With the UAE- being one of the fastest growing Shipping and Logistics hubs in the Middle East several companies from the region have shown a keen interest in supporting an initiative to provide opportunity to students - to learn through an ‘unpaid industrial internship programme’ - allowing them to gain a ‘on the job’ experience, Gulf Today reports.
DP World along with related Government and Private companies have stepped forward in joining hands with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)- to promote
“Logistics & Shipping” as a separate practical course for desired candidates to avail.
The institute that was established in India in 2007 has been instrumental in offering- unique employability link programmes such as Diploma/Advanced Diploma/PG Diploma/MBA Exclusively in Logistics and Shipping/Port related sectors for Graduate.
Such a vocational training programme will be greatly beneficial in preparing candidates interested in serving the logistics and shipping sector in this part of the Arab World, said the DP World HR Director, Masoud Al Noori, while talking to The Gulf Today on the sideline of the launch of the training programme in Dubai recently.
The institute has since been successful in providing the required skill to over 1500 students, driving them into practical and theoretical training, and has since signed with more than 500 national and international reputed companies to provide internships, thus gaining a 100 per cent positive placement record, disclosed Captain V.J. Pushpa Kumar, the Director of Indian Institute of Logistics.
