Small Latvian seaports' throughput is up 19.8% in Jan-Aug
In January-August 2010, stevedores operating at Latvia's small ports transhipped 963,500 tons of cargo, or 19.8% up from the same period a year earlier, Baltic Course reports citing the Transport Ministry of Latvia.
Skulte Port posted a 24.7-percent throughput rise to 422,500 tons (vs 338,900 tons handled in Jan-Aug, 2009).
Salacgriva Port handled 222,400 tons, a 10.4-percent gain, Mersrags Port – 280,500 tons (a 14.3-percent increase). Freight turnover at Roja Port soared 128% to 36,300 tons, while Pavilosta Port posted a 21.7-percent drop in handled volume, to 1,800 tons.
This year, no cargo was handled at Engure Port.
