    Vostochny Port has no fear of ice season

    The abnormal heat put on the way of Russian stevedoring companies - especially those engaged in transshipment of coal a new test - freezing of the cargo. Due to this problem the railcars stand idle, traffic jams stuck the railway approaches, and Russian Railways JSC introduces conventional embargo. In order not to let this situation repeat from year to year, stevedoring companies need to deal seriously with the replacement of outdated equipment and technology. The investment program of Vostochny Port JSC follows this particular aim in preparation for winter.

    Vostochny Port JSC - the largest stevedoring company in the Far East of Russia, which specializes in the transshipment of coal using the conveyor equipment. The Eastern Port JSC includes a specialized coal complex and industrial and transshipment facility, which is engaged in transshipment of general and bulk cargo (such as coal, clinker, coke, iron ore concetrate, timber, etc.).

    Port Management Company LLC, which manages Vostochny Port JSC expects to increase turnover up to 17 million tons by the end of 2011 and reach pre-crisis figures. To achieve this goal and to implement shipping schedule coordinated with Russian Railways (RR), the management company have allocated additional funds to update equipment and techniques for operation with coal in winter.

    Thus, to reduce the risk of railcars damage during unloading at the first production transshipment complex (PPC-1), in mid-November 2014 it is planned to purchase 2 mobile cranes Liebherr 934 with adjustable cabin lift height, which allows to put grapple (unloader shovel) inside the car in the process of unloading in the most accurate way and avoid direct contact of grapple with the walls of railcar. To replace the old worn-out loaders such as "Bobcat" at the PPC-1, 2 modern loaders Mustang 2086 are to be purchased in September.

    At the present time for unloading of frozen coal from the cars already used railcar defrosters are applied, with high temperatures thawing and softening the carbon monolith. In order to expedite handling of cargo by means of car dumpers, efficiency of cars defrosting in defrosting houses and exclude re-cooling of cars construction of insulated windshield installations is financed. The new facility will be equipped with infrared heaters, which will be set next to railcar defrosters. This will increase the number of unloaded cars in the winter. And to facilitate the unloading of cars with the car dumpers a specially designed stationary drilling rig for the destruction of a coherent structure of the monolith are constructed.

    Besides the milling machines are updated on the car dumpers of coal complex PPK-3 - frequency control system and a completely new design of the teeth with hard-alloy elements are implemented. New items will allow grind frozen coal much faster and more efficiently.

    Noteworthy, the port authorities have previously agreed with the shippers to carry out handling of cars with special composition that prevent freezing of coal to the car walls at the stage of loading.
