Sovcomflot to take delivery of 4 supply vessels from Arctech Helsinki Shipyard this year (photo)
Arctech Helsinki Shipyard (United Shipbuilding Corporation) will build four icebreaking supply vessels ordered by Sovcomflot for Sakhalin-2 project under the long-term agreement with Sakhalin Energy, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Evgeniy Ambrosov, Senior Executive Vice President of PAO Sovcomflot and Vice Chair of the Arctic Economic Council (AEC), as saying after the AEC meeting held in Saint-Petersburg on February 7-8.
The meeting featured the representatives of business communities of Russia, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Canada and the USA. For the first time in the history of AEC, its meeting was held in the Russian Federation.
“Arctech Helsinki Shipyard is building four state-of-the-art supply vessels intended for various works related to servicing the platforms under the Sakhalin-2 project, to ensure their repair, safe operation and prevention of oil spills. The first vessel was named Gennadiy Nevelskoy. Other three vessels will also bear the names of people given to the leading educational institutions of maritime transport in our country – Stepan Makarov, Feodor Ushakov and Mikhail Lazarev,” said Evgeniy Ambrosov adding that the Gennadiy Nevelskoy would be put into operation on February 14, 2017. The vessel will immediately leave for Sakhalin.
“Other three vessels will be delivered in 2017 with the intervals of 2-3 months”, said SCF representative. According to him, they will immediately sail to Sakhalin with further orders to be determined by the interests of Russian companies related to the research and production projects in the Kara Sea.
With its 10 icebreaking supply vessels deployed at Sakhalin, Sovcomflot will be the world’s largest operator of IBSV fleet, emphasized Evgeniy Ambrosov.
He also reminded that AEC meeting was held in the run-up to the Arctic – Territory of Dialogue conference.
