Arkhangelsk region to invest 7.88 billion rubles for development of regional highways in 2007-2010
Legislative Assembly of Arkhangelsk region has adopted social-and-economic special purpose program on Development and Improvement of Regional Public Highways for 2007-2010 in the second reading at the session held on September 27. Total amount of investment to amount to 7.88 billion rubles, PRIME-TASS reports with reference to regional assembly. The share of regional budget – 6.857 billion rubles, federal budget – 1.031 billion rubles. Major targets of the program are highway links to district centers, construction of Northern Transport Corridor and traffic safety, improvement of roads quality. The program is to be implemented by Arkhangelsk Highways company and organizations to be selected on a competitive basis. Program implementation shall result in increased length of hard-surface highways in Arkhangelsk region to 6.843 thou km by January 1, 2011 including 2.048 thou km of capital-surface highways. By 2011 it is planned to link Arkhangelsk with district centers of the region. Besides, according to Nickolai Kiselev, Governor of Arkhangelsk region, further construction of transport corridors will ensure connection of Arkhangelsk region with the North-West region and Urals, which is to push economic development of the region.
