Three vessels are liquidating oil spill caused by Russian shipping boat sunk in the Aniva Bay of the Sakhalin Island
On Thursday three vessels started liquidation oil spill caused by Russian Kyuiko Maru shipping boat sunk in the Aniva Bay of the Sakhalin Island, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the press service of the main regional branch of the Ministry of RF for Civil Defense, Emergency Management and Natural Disasters response. The Kyuiko Maru vessel was escorted by a border guard ship to the port of Korsakov when the fire broke. The vessel sank while the crew was rescued by the border guard ship, the agency’s representative reported. According to preliminary estimates, oil spill amounts to 900 kilograms of diesel fuel. The oil patch on the sea surface has the diameter of about four kilometers. The Commission on prevention and management of emergency situations and fires in Sakhalin region prescribed on Thursday “to carry out activities on collection of oil products spilled by the sunk vessel. Oil spill response plan was put into operation and round-the-clock observation was arranged at the coast of the Aniva Bay. Three vessels of Sakhalin Basin emergency response team work in the Bay - Agat, Mizar and SPA-004. Besides, search-and-rescue team is ready to participate in the operation.
