PVS Chemicals saves 10% of their fleet fuel costs
XATA Corporation today announced PVS Chemicals, Inc., a worldwide supplier of superior chemical products and services, has selected XATANET to automate driver logs and fuel tax compliance while increasing overall fuel economy.
PVS Chemicals is a supplier of superior quality chemical products and services to industries as diverse as electronics, manufacturing, steel, pharmaceutical, metal plating and finishing, and water treatment. PVS operates an 80-unit fleet running more than 5 million miles each year with a variety of truck types operating in a multi-stop environment and liquid tank trucks making single location bulk deliveries.
'We selected XATANET with two primary goals in mind, saving money on fuel and saving time on the paperwork associated with trip reporting and regulatory compliance,' said Jim Lawson, logistics project manager for PVS Transportation. 'With XATANET, we are quickly accomplishing both goals, having targeted a 10% savings in fuel costs alone.'
XATANET electronically captures and continually displays real-time fuel performance for the driver. Drivers use this information to alter speed, braking and gear shifting to improve fuel economy at the point of immediate impact. Fuel costs are further reduced by the ongoing interaction that occurs between drivers as they continually work to improve their personal fuel economy ratings.
'PVS believes that leveraging XATANET to reduce costs will help maintain our competitiveness, and also prepare for the future," said Lawson. 'Homeland security for chemical shippers is gaining importance, and electronically collecting and monitoring the accurate detail from which our safety department can assure the proper location and operation of our vehicles is critical to our future.'
PVS Transportation is also focused on the timely delivery of its products and the resulting impact on customer service and satisfaction. 'Tracking driver and vehicle utilization with XATANET will lead to improvements in service levels by knowing and communicating the status of each delivery,' said Lawson. 'We can now make sure we have the right driver and equipment for each route, avoiding certain issues from the start and better managing other problems as they occur in real-time.'
XATANET is capable of receiving a complete electronic trip plan and collecting comprehensive stop and leg information during the route. This allows for comparison between planned and actual data and relieves the extensive paper work required for compliance data gathering and performance reporting as part of the driver's daily routine. Data normally recorded and transported by hand for driver logs, trip sheets, and fuel tax purchases is electronically captured and maintained over time.
