Ukrainian Railways transported 289 million tons of cargo in January-August 2006
Ukrainian Railways transported 289 million tons of cargo in January-August 2006, RZhD-Partner reports. The share of dispatched cargo is 83.6% or 256.7 million tons (+4.9% или +11.9 million tons against similar period of the previous year). Last year the share of dispatched cargo over the same period was 84.4%, the dynamics against corresponding period of 2004 was -3.5% (-8.8 million tons). So, volume of cargo dispatched by Ukrzaliznitsa grew over 20 million tons. Major share of such cargo falls on coal (25.4% of total result or 65.1 million tons, +1.5% against year-on-year result) and ore (17.9% or 46.1 million tons, +8.5% correspondingly). In 2005 these results were 26.2% and 17.2%, while the tendency of volume change was the following: coal - -5.6%; ore - +0.8%. In the sector of ferrous metals transportation, the last year 3.9% decrease (over first 8 month) changed to 10.6% increase (up to 26 million tons). The same change of tendencies has been demonstrated in the sector of ferrous metal scrap: last year 9.7% decrease and this year 1.8% increase to 4 million tons).
