Throughput of Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg down 11% to 3.79 mln t in HI’2016
In January-June 2016 Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg OJSC handled 3.79 mln t of cargo (-11%, year-on-year), the stevedoring company says in a press release.
Transshipment of general cargo declined by 7% to 3.25 mln t mostly due to the decrease of metal scrap transshipment (down 43.7% to 415,000 t) amid decreasing volumes of purchases from importing countries.
Meanwhile, transshipment of ferrous and non-ferrous metal grew amid higher exports of steal and aluminum by the port’s customers (up 1.8% to 1.53 mln t and up 4.5% to 781,000 accoringly).
Since the beginning of the year the terminal operator increased handling of pellets by 21.8% to 83,000 t. Besides, imports of food grew by 20.5% to 39,000, transshipment of project, oversized, heavylift cargoes climbed by 8.4% to 30,000 t.
In HI’2016, handling of ro-ro cargo grew by 15.4% to 223,000 t following increased import of vehicles delivered to the port by international ferry lines. The number vehicles was up 62% to 18,000 units thanks to growing export of Russian-made cars.
Transshipment of dry bulk and loose cargo dropped by 31% to 540,000 t with the decreased handling of bulk mineral fertilizers (down 91% to 28,000 t) due to the redistribution of the cargo traffic to dedicated terminals in Russia and the Baltic countries. However, transshipment of alumina grew by 8.5% to 444,000 t, grain – by 37.6% to 68,000 t.
In the reported period, exports via Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg fell by 14.4%, year-on-year, to 3.13 mln t (82.5% of the company’s throughput), imports – up 5.8% to 660,000 t (17.5% of the company’s throughput).
JSC Sea Port St. Petersburg (part of UCL Port, a stevedoring division of the international transport group UCL Holding) is the largest stevedore handling all types of dry cargo in Big Port St. Petersburg. The stevedore operates modern multipurpose terminals for general and bulk cargoes, and dedicated Ro-Ro terminals. In 2015 the company handled 7.9 mln t of cargo.
