Odfjell buys five chemical tankers
NORWEGIAN parcel tanker operator Odfjell has bought five chemical tankers in four separate deals for a total of about US$130m.
Four of the ships are second-hand vessels with stainless steel cargo tanks and were all built between 1995 and 1997.
The 1996-built, 10,115-built Giada D was delivered on 12 September by former owner Giada Shipping and renamed Bow Querida. The 13,843 dwt, 1997-built Euro Azzurra has been bought from UK-based Euroceanica UK by a Norwegian 50/50 joint venture company owned by Odfjell ASA and Kristian Gerhard Jebsens Skipsrederi. Odfjell has also bought the 17,460 dwt Brage Atlantic and Brage Pacific, built in 1995 and 1997 respectively, from Norwegian owners with delivery to take place in first and second quarter 2007. Finally a JV, 49 % by Odfjell, has taken delivery of a 3,850 dwt chemical tanker which will operate in the Chinese domestic market. Meanwhile Odfjell has sold the 1979-built, 35,289 dwt Bow Heron to Norwegian owners, making a net profit of US$700,000.
