New Liverpool - Portugal ferry
A new company, Searoad, has started a UK-Portugal cargo ferry service. The first sailing from Brocklebank Dock was last week.
Searoad is backed by Portuguese banks is offering freight customers a door-to-door service. It says it believes its ferry will prove quicker and cheaper for customers who would otherwise go overland. The 1,550km sailing from Liverpool to Porto is shorter than the 2,400km overland route and Searoad says its service benefits from not facing on-road restrictions such as driving time regulations. A spokesman said: "We are cheaper, faster, more environmentally friendly and we offer a bigger capacity than our rivals on the road."
