Cargo turnover of the port of Kaliningrad grew in January-August 2006 by 6.9% to 10.6 million tons
Cargo turnover of the port of Kaliningrad grew in January-August 2006 by 6.9% to 10 595 thou tons. This information has been provided to PortNews IAA at Kaliningrad branch of Rosmorport FSUE. Volume of export cargo amounted over the reported period to 9 567.4 thou tons (+7.4% as compared with January-August 2005). Exported oil products amounted to 6 851.6 thou tons (+16.2%), chemical cargo – 474.2 thou tons (-6.6%). Volume of ferrous metal transshipment amounted to 1 219.7 thou tons (-12.4%), metal scrap – 117.9 thou tons (-22.1%), ferroalloys – 187.1 thou tons (-7.1%). Over the reported period the port handled 446.2 thou tons (+10.8%) of coal and coke, timber cargo – 53.8 thou tons (-26.6%), grain – 45.3 thou tons (-22%). Container turnover of the port in January-August amounted 32 878 TEUs (117.8 thou tons), which is 1.2% below the year-on-year results. Export of Ro-Ro cargo amounted to 24.3 thou tons (+17.9%).
Volume of import cargo handled over eight months amounted to 986.3 thou tons (+1.1%). Container turnover within import structure amounted to 42 859 TEUs (360.6 thou tons), that is 30.4% above the results of January-August 2005. Import of Ro-Ro cargo amounted to 18.2 thou tons (+68.7%), import transshipment of grain amounted to 218.4 thou tons (+3%), fish – 84.5 thou tons (-21.6%), refrigerator cargo – 77.8 thou tons (-31.5%), chemical cargo - 8. thou tons (+62.7%), other cargo – 218.5 thou tons (-4%).
Coastal transportation of cargo in January-August amounted to 42.0 thou tons (+44.4% against year-on-year result).
