Transport complex of Odessa region (Ukraine) decreased cargo transportation over 8 months of 2006 by 4.2% amounting to 23.2 million tons
Cargo transportation volume of Odessa region (Ukraine) amounted to 23 189.4 thou tons in January-August 2006 (year-on-year decrease of 4.2%), state regional administration reports. This information has been provided by RBC Ukraine. Railroad transportation of cargo decreased by 4.8% amounting to 15 194 thou tons, water transportation – by 10.2% amounting to 4 406 thou tons, motor transportation – by 7.5% amounting to 3589.4 thou tons. At the same time passenger transportation decreased by 3.6% amounting to 15 6603.1 thou persons, including transportation by motor transport – by 5.8% amounting to 13 2615.6 thou persons, by water transport – by 12% amounting to 62.4 thou persons, while railroad transportation increased by 11.2% amounting to 23867 thou persons, by air – by 2.1% amounting to 58.1 thou persons. Odessa is the key region in Ukraine transport system. It is crossed by two International transport corridors, including water corridor along Danube. The region’s sea trading ports handle 80% of all cargo in Ukraine.
