Cargo turnover of the port of Saint Petersburg fell by 6.2% in January-August 2006 amounting to 35 million tons
Cargo turnover of the port of Saint Petersburg in January-August 2006 amounted to 35 002.3 thou tons (year-on-year decrease of 6.2%). This information has been provided to PortNews IAA at the Administration of Saint Petersburg seaport. Oil products transshipment over the reported period amounted to 8487 thou tons (-15.9% as compared with January-August 2005), metal — 4400.6 thou tons (-25,5%), timber — 1953.9 thou tons (-20.5%). Container transshipment increased by 20.1% amounting to 9728.3 thou tons (894 583 TEU). The port handled 2272,2 thou tons of refrigerator cargo (+3.6%), chemical cargo — 3062.2 thou tons (-36%), food cargo – 74.6 thou tons (-53.3%). Transshipment of general cargo over eight months increased by 11.9% amounting to 1281.7 thou tons. Transshipment of ore and coal decreased by 39.3% amounting to 1328,9 thou tons, grain - 250.1 thou tons (-12.8%). The port resumed transshipment of metal scrap — 2081.9 thou tons and dry bulk cargo — 11.5 thou tons.
In August 2006 cargo turnover of the port decreased by 1.4% as compared with July of the previous year and amounted to 5253.5 thou tons. Transshipment of oil products amounted in August to 1489.3 thou tons (-13.1% as compared with August 2005), metal — 512.9 thou tons (-31%), timber — 220.2 thou tons (-23.1%). Container transshipment grew in August by 25.6% до 1395,9 thou tons (130 876 TEU). In August the port handled 245.5 thou tons of refrigerator cargo (+9.7%), chemical cargo — 594,3 thou tons (-17,8%). Transshipment of general cargo amounted in August 174.9 thou tons (year-on-year growth +7.6%). Volume of coal and ore transshipment decreased in August 2006 by 13.6% amounting to 282.4 thou tons, grain transshipment grew to 38.4 thou tons (+28%). In July the port handled 281.8 thou tons of metal scrap (in July 2005 metal scrap transshipment was not carried out at the port) and 5.7 thou tons of dry bulk cargo (in August 2005 this type of cargo was not handled).
According to Administration of Saint Petersburg seaport, 29 stevedoring companies carried out cargo transshipment over the reported period.
