Cargo turnover of Saint Petersburg port in January-July 2006 decreased by 6.9% amounting to 29.7 million tons. This information has been provided to PortNews IAA at the Administration of Sea Port Saint Petersburg FSA. Transshipment of oil products amounted to 6997.7 thou tons (-16.5% as compared with January-July 2005), metals - 3887.7 thou tons (-24.7%), timber cargo - 1733.7 thou tons (-20.2%). The port handled 2026.7 thou tons of refrigerator cargo (+2.9%), chemical cargo - 2468.0 thou tons (-39.2%), food - 74.1 thou tons (-51.3%). Transshipment of general cargo over seven months increased up to 1106.7 thou tons (+12.6%). Transshipment of coal and ore fell to 1036.5 thou tons (-43.8%), grain - to 211.7 thou tons (-17.5%). Over the reported period the port handled 1800.1 thou tons of metal scrap (in January-July 2005 transshipment of metal scrap was not carried out).
In July 2006 cargo turnover of the port decreased by 13.5% as compared with July of the previous year amounting to 4938.3 thou tons. Transshipment of oil products in July amounted to 1258.4 thou tons (-31.7% as compared with July 2005), metal - 642.1 thou tons (-24.1%), timber cargo - 223.1 thou tons (-27.1%). The port handled 243.3 thou tons of refrigerator cargo in July (-10%), chemical cargo - 354.3 thou tons (-55.2%). Transshipment general cargo increased up to 188.9 thou tons (+5.8%). Volume of coal and ore transshipment increased in July by 22.4% to 304.3 thou tons, grain up to 69.5 thou tons (+41%). In July the port handled 351.0 thou tons of metal scrap (in July 2005 transshipment of metal scrap was not carried out). According to the Administration of Sea Port Saint Petersburg, the transshipment of cargo over the reported period was carried out in the port of Saint Petersburg by 29 stevedoring companies.
