Cross point of the ferry line Ust-Luga – Baltijskis is to be opened in September-October. This information has been provided to the correspondent of PortNews IAA by Konstantin Goncharov, Director General of Ust-Luga branch of Rosmorport. According to him the second phase of Ust-Luga line – German ports may be opened at the beginning of 2007.
We’d like to remind you that Baltijsk ferry has been modified on the basis of Rider sea railroad ferry of reinforced ice class acquired in 2006 by Rosmorport. It was built at the same yard in 1984 for transportation of European standard wagons and worked at the line between Travemunde (Germany) and Turku (Finland). Purchase and modification of the ferry was carried out via State Transport Leasing Company OJSC with participation of Russian Development Bank OJSC. Maintenance of the ferry under bareboat charter terms will be carried out by Baltic Transport Systems CJSC. The ferry is to be used for transportation of rolling equipment at the line Saint Petersburg – Baltijsk – Ports of Germany and then, after launching of complexes at sea train terminals in Ust-Luga and Baltijsk – at the line between these ports with perspective extension till ferry port Zasnits (Germany). Basic characteristics of Baltijsk ferry after modification: length – 187.36 m; width - 22 m; depth – 18.95 m; deadweight - 9800 tons.
