Nomura Research Institute wins contract, to develop the Sovetskaya Gavan SEZ
Nomura Research Institute of Japan won the open tender for the concept of creation and development of the Port Special Economic Zone ‘Sovetskaya Gavan’ in Khabarovsk, PortNews IAA reported citing the press office of Special Economic Zones OJSC.
Under the terms of the tender, the company-developer of the concept is to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study of the SEZ project and provide reviews of potential investors who plan to develop business in the special economic zone.
There were 8 bidders who participated in the tender, four of them - major international consulting firms, HPC Hamburg Port Consulting GmbH and Sellhorn Ingenieurgesellschaft MbH of Hamburg (Germany), RMJM Scotland Limited (Scotland) and the Maritime & Transport Business Solutions (Netherlands).
The Port Special Economic Zone Sovetskaya Gavan was established by order of the Russian Government on December 30, 2009. The Sovetskaya Gavan zone is located at the intersection of international trade routes that allow access to the fast growing market of port and logistics services of Asia-Pacific region.
The basic idea of Sovetskaya Gavan SEZ is the formation of the modern multi-purpose port, the ship repair center, based on convenient geographical location and existing infrastructure.
Nomura Research Institute, the largest in the APR Research and Consulting Center was established in 1965 and has become a key research and consulting center for Japanese business. Nomura implements projects in the Asia-Pacific region, in India and Brazil.
Special Economic Zones OJSC is the managing company for 17 existing and newly created special economic zones in Russia. Of them, three specialize in developing industrial production, 4 - focus on technological innovation, 8 are engaged in development of tourism and recreation business, 2 specializes in the development of port logistics and transportation hubs.
The state-run SEZ company was established in 2006. Since the enactment of the SEZ legislation in 2005 and until 2010 the company operated as a customer of the infrastructure construction and has unique experience in this field.
From 2006 to 2010, 234 companies from 18 countries have invested in the Russia’s special economic zones, including such giants as Yokohama, Isuzu, Itochu, Sojitz, Air Liquide, Bekaert, Rockwool, etc.
The volume of investments, stated by the residents of special economic zones of Russia, is about $ 6.4 billion.
