Freight flows via Port of Kotka up 40.5% in Jan-Aug, to 7m tons
Cargo turnover at the port of Kotka (Finland) in January-August 2010 increased by 40.5% compared with the same period last year, to 7 million tons, the Port Authority statistics said.
Eight-month container throughput in the reporting period rose by 13.6% to 258,848 TEUs. Ro-Ro cargo volume dropped significantly - by 41.4%, to 9,953 units. Transshipment of exported goods reached 3,685.657 tons, a 40.1-percent growth. The exports volume Includes 1,505.173 tons of paper (-3.8%). Import flows via the port soared 61.7%, to 1,901.744 tons.
In August, the port of Kotka handled about 994,000 tons of freight.
Port of Kotka is one of the main export ports in Finland, which is part of a logistics hub, providing trade between Finland and Russia. Lumber and pulp and paper plant’s products are major cargoes passing through the port.
