Renovated building of passenger terminal opened in Murmansk (photo)

Ceremonial opening of the renovated building of Murmansk passenger terminal has been held today, 4 October 2016, on the day of Murmansk centenary, says press center of Murmansk Region Government.

Valentina Matvienko, the Chairman of the RF Federal Assembly of the Federation Council, who attended the ceremony, said that the new building will become a landmark of Murmansk. New infrastructure will let develop cruise tourism as an opportunity to present an area of extraordinary beauty, culture, traditions and historical sights to the entire world”.
 
“Arctic Harbour Project plays a significant role for the region as it establishes an important transport hub with an infrastructure for cruise tourism development. It is an essential component of the strategy for the development of Russia’s Arctic zone and a large scale state programme for economic and social development –in the Arctic. All this is focused on the key task – to enhance the living standards and welfare of people living here,” said Valentina Matvienko.

According to Murmansk Region Governor Marina Kovtun, “Murmansk is now Russia’s true hospitably open sea gates to the Arctic”.
 
“Murmansk is getting prepared for ambitious Arctic projects”, said the Governor.

The ceremony was also attended by Victor Olersky, Deputy Transport Minister of Russia – Head of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency, and Andrei Tarasenko, Director General of FSUE Rosmorport.

The newly reconstructed building of Murmansk port’s passenger terminal presents an infrastructure necessary for servicing of passengers coming to Murmansk by maritime transport. The project included the reconstruction of the pier for long-distance lines, bank protection facilities and passenger building as well as improvement of adjacent territory.

The reconstruction project was financed by the federal budget and Rosmorport. More than RUB 460 mln was spent for reconstruction of the terminal building, over RUB 790 mln - for the pier.

Under the Federal Targeted Programme, a State Border checkpoint will be established in the terminal building by 2018 .
