Phase 3 of Vostochny Port’s coal terminal shipped first batch of cargo to India

Vostochny Port JSC says it has launched Phase 3 of its specialized coal terminal today, 5 September 2019. According to the company’s statement, the first batch of cargo loaded at the new facility, high quality coal of UK Kuzbassrazrezugol, is intended for JSW Steel Ltd, the leader of India’s steel industry.

Phase 3 of Vostochny Port’s coal terminal is the most ambitious private investment project costing over RUB 40 billion and implemented through public private partnership without involving state financing. Phase 3 lets the terminal double its annual throughput from 25 million tonnes to 50-55 million tonnes. The Phase 3 project has generated more than 600 new high skill jobs. By 2016, the project will ensure a total of RUB 25 billion of tax payments that will give a powerful impetus to the social and economic development of the Primorsky Territory.

“We were proud to present Phase 3 of Vostochny Port to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi as a state-of-the-art project in terms of ecological sustainability. Most of the best available technologies of environment protection have been introduces at the terminal.

Vostochny Port JSC should set the example for other companies while measure undertaken by it should become a standard in the industry”, said RF Transport Minister Yevgeny Ditrikh.

According to Irina Olkhovskaya, member of Vostochny Port BoD, “the today’s milestone event brings port industry of Russia to the next level”.

“The entire system of the high-tech facility ensuring closed transshipment of coal, Phase 3 of Vostochny Port, has been kicked off. The facility will double annual throughput of Russia’s largest coal terminal from 25 million tonnes to 50-55 million tonnes and will ensure comprehensive development of Russia’s leading stevedore as well as competitiveness of Russian coal producers in the global market”, said Irina Olkhovskaya.

Vostochny Port JSC (Vrangel settlement, Primorsky Territory), the resident of Free Port of Vladivostok, is Russia’s largest specialized terminal with high-tech coal transshipment. Vostochny Port is a free access facility open for all coal manufacturers of Russia. In 2018, it handled 24.3 million tonnes of cargo.
