The number of oil slicks form bunkering in the port of Novorossisk has decreased

There have been two slicks of oil products for 2005 in the port of Novorossisk, caused by the bunkering operations. That’s half the figure for 2004. As a correspondent of the PortNews Information Agency reports, this was stated by a representative of the Administration of seaport of Novorossisk FSA (Federal State Administration) at the Trade and Bunker Business in the Southern Region conference, held in Sochi. Thus the number of bunkering of vessels in Novorossisk has increased by 25 % for the last year in comparison with 2004 totaling 3774 operations. There were 2 emergency oil slicks in Novorossisk during 2482 bunkering operations carried out by the port in 2003.
Novorossisk FSA estimates the ecological situation of the port as unsatisfactory. The reasons for it are as follows, superfluous, according to representatives of Novorossisk FSA, number of the bunker companies in the port (13 companies, 24 bunker vessel), considerable deterioration of the bunkering fleet (5 vessels are over 30 years, 12 vessels - over 20 years), fuel discharging from the tankers at berths of the port according to temporary schemes, lack of all-weather safe places for transshipment of oil products and, as consequence, a big concentration of these operations on a anchor berths.
