Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard delivers dry cargo carrier Pola Makaria to Pola Rise (photo)
Nizhny Novgorod, Russia based Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard (a company of United Shipbuilding Corporation) and Pola Rise have signed a deliver/acceptance certificate for the dry cargo carrier of Project RSD59, Pola Makaria (homeported in Saint-Petersburg), says the shipbuilding company.
The Pola Makaria is the first ship in a series of five dry cargo carriers delivered to Pola Rise under the contract signed in December 2016.
According to Mikhail Pershin, Actin Director General of Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard, a unique feature of this ship is her ability to carry a very wide range of cargo including oversized cargo, long components and metal structures.
“We have fulfilled our task having built the dry bulk carrier in a very short time. The customers has taken the delivery with no remarks”, added Mikhail Pershin.
The ship launched on 20 April 2018 has successfully passed the mooring and sea trials.
Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard is currently building four dry cargo carriers of Project RSD59. The shipyard undertakes to deliver them in 2018.
The vessel is designed for transportation of general, containerized cargo, timber, grain, oversized cargo and dangerous goods of 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 class in accordance with IC IMDG and Appendix B of the BC Code in the Caspian, Mediterranean, Black, Baltic, White and North Seas including sailings around Europe and in the Irish Sea during winter season.
The new series is a successor of RSD49 design which had three holds. RSD59 ships with extra full hull forms have a unique second hold, the largest among Volgo-Don Max ships.
One of the main advantages of the RSD59 project is a large hold (77.35 m long) allowing for transportation of oversized project cargoes on direct Europe-Caspian routes, which should significantly affect the overall financial result of the operation.
Key particulars of the ship: length – 140.88 m, breadth – 16.98 m, depth – 6 m, river/sea deadweight – 5,272/7,679 m, Capacity of cargo holds – 11,292 m, number of holds – two, river/sea draft – 3.6/4.53 m, endurance - 12/20 days.

Project RSD59 designer is Marine Engineering Bureau – Design SPb. Working design document was developed by Volga-Caspian Design Bureau.
