On 3 April 2018, MSCC Bronka (Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex Bronka, Big Port St. Petersburg) welcomed MS Finnsky, the first Finnlines’ vessel lengthened under the programme on 30-pct capacity increase, says Fenix LLC, operator of MSCC Bronka.
The vessel delivered self-propelled machinery, cargo/equipment in truck-trailers and loaded with sawn timber.
Finnsky is one of ro-ro vessels operated by Finnlies. After the modification, MS Finnsky is 217.77 metres long (lengthened by approximately 30 metres) and has a capacity of 4,213 lane metres. In practice, around 1 km of trucks more per ship can be hosted on board.
Finnlines' EUR 70 million Energy Efficiency and Emission Reduction Investment Programme was launched with the lengthening of four “Breeze series” vessels in 2017, with an option of additional two. According to Finnlines, approximately 30 per cent capacity increase per vessel will further reduce the energy consumption per transported unit. In other words, it will improve energy efficiency further and thus contribute more to reducing emissions.
The first two vessels, MS Finntide and MS Finnwave, were put in operation in 2017 and in January 2018. Lengthening of MS Finnsky was completed in late March 2018. Finnsun will be lengthened by the end of May 2018 with the works on two more vessels, Finnbreeze and Finnsea, to be completed by the end of 2018.

MSCC Bronka (Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex Bronka) is located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland, where the Dam and the Ring Road border the territory of Lomonosov. Bronka is the only deepwater terminal at the port of Saint-Petersburg. Its water area and the access canal is 14.4 meters deep. Container terminal of MSCC Bronka comprising 5 berths is 1,220 meters long, the dock line of its Ro-Ro terminal (1 berth) is 210 meters.
MSCC Bronka specializes in transshipment of containers and Ro-Ro/general/oversize cargo. Its container terminal covers 107 hectares, the Ro-Ro terminal - 57 hectares, logistics center – 42 hectares.
The capacity of Bronka’s Phase 1 is 1.45 million TEUs and 130,000 units of Ro-Ro cargoes. In the future the MSCC Bronka expansion will help increase the facility's container throughput to 1.9 million TEUs and 260,000 Ro-Ro units.
