On prospects for construction of a deepwater port Pionersk

    — We will not drop the idea of port Pionersk. Federal funds have been earmarked for it as well. We are about to complete designing of some facilities that will ensure infrastructure and additional flow of tourists. It will let us direct ro-ro cargo to that port. Full-scale deepwater port is a complicated issue. It is necessary to understand what and where will go if we are considered as an entry to the Russian market. Having faced the resistance in the form of somewhat political pins from our Baltic colleagues, this project, I’m afraid, can be brought to its knees and not realized. But if we apply a different approach and this port will become a point close to a production zone for final fitting out of some goods that will be then shipped to Europe, it is more interesting. It seems to me, that Kaliningrad ports should be used as a point of double entry to both the markets of Russia and Europe. That would be more reasonable, more balanced. We should find private investors as the state is not likely to find RUB 300 bln for construction of a deepwater port.
