Russia and Korea to establish a joint center of marine technologies and start local production of shipboard equipment
On 20 July 2018, АО Central Research and Development Institution “Kurs” (CNII Kurs, a company of АО Morinformsystem-Agat Concern) welcomed representatives of Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute (KOMERI) and Korea Marine Equipment Association (KOMEA), CNII Kurs told IAA PortNews.
The meeting participants discussed possible creation of a Russia-Korea center of marine technologies and local production of shipboard equipment. The idea to create such a center was supported by the Shipbuilding Department of RF Ministry of Industry and trade.
During the meeting, Vitaly Khanychev, Director General of CNII Kurs, told his Korean colleagues about the current state and prospects of Russia’s shipbuilding industry. He emphasized the investment attractiveness of shipbuilding market in Russia.
Dmitry Stoyanov, Deputy Director General of CNII Kurs for Civil Marine Facilities presented the center for phasing-out imports of shipboard equipment established at the premises of CNII Kurs. He told about the key activities of the Center having covered its advantages and specific features of localization in the territory of the Russian Federation, tax privileges and state support measures foreseen for investors.
Tae-Hyoung Kim, head of the KOMERI Testing & Certification Centre, told in his turn about the development of Korean shipbuilding technologies and marked potential cooperation of the two countries in performing joint scientific research and creating joint ventures in Russia.
The meeting participants decided to sign an agreement on Russia-Korea cooperation and to launch a joint pilot project on local production of shipboard equipment. The Agreement is to be signed at the Eastern International Economic Forum in September 2018.
