General cargo ship Rich Mighty spilled oil at Seaport of Vladivostok
The general cargo ship Rich Mighty spilled oil at Seaport of Vladivostok in Russia. The accident happened during bunkering operations after leak of fuel on the main deck. Following the damage in bunkering hose, about 50-60 liters of fuel poured on the ice between the board and the dock. The crew stopped the fuel transfer immediate and reported the accident was reported to the local authorities. At the the site responded hazmat and environment teams, which monitored and assessed the water pollution. It was estimated that the oil spot covered an area of 1,200 sq m. The environment response teams started water cleansing and collected around 600 kg of oiled ice crumbs. According to the authorities the whole water pollution was eliminated.
The investigation for the root cause of the accident is under way. The vessel will be detained for special inspection. The authorities will estimate the responsibilities for the water pollution.
The general cargo ship Rich Mighty (IMO: 9374662) has overall length of 87.00 m, moulded beam of 14.00 m and maximum draft of 5.00 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 3,994 DWT and the gross tonnage is 1,996 GRT. The cargo ship Rich Mighty was built in 2005 by Xingye Shipyard in Zhoushan, China. The owner and operator of the vessel is Chinese company Sanhe Marine.
